Weston and the villages around it have an unusually high proportion of bungalows and chalet bungalows. That changes the job in a good way: the loft runs over the whole footprint rather than half of it, hatches are often in a hallway with room to work, and there is real storage to be had once the floor is in.

The limiting factor is more often the roof structure than the access. A trussed roof fills the space with timber webs that cannot be cut, so what looks like a huge loft may have a much smaller genuinely usable area.

Why bungalow lofts are worth doing properly

A loft over everything: Single-storey means the loft covers the full footprint. There is simply more of it than in a semi.
Hallway hatches: Usually central, with space around them — which widens the choice of ladder considerably.
Lower ceiling heights: Shorter ladders, often a simpler and cheaper unit than a two-storey house needs.
Chalet complications: Chalet bungalows have rooms in the roof already, so the remaining loft is odd-shaped. Worth surveying carefully.

Do you come out to Weston-super-Mare?

I live in a bungalow. Is that different?

Does being near the coast affect anything?

Not for the ladder itself. It is worth mentioning if you have had any roof or damp issues, because we will see the loft space and can tell you what we notice — though we are loft access specialists, not roofers.

My loft has a trussed roof. Can I still board it?

Often partly. Trusses limit clear floor and headroom, and the webs must never be cut. We will tell you at survey what the truss layout realistically leaves you.

Who covers Building Regulations here?

North Somerset Council Building Control. For a ladder giving storage access through an existing opening, Building Regulations usually do not apply.
